Dr. Desiree S. Machado is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics with expertise in pediatric critical care and cardiac critical care. After completing her medical degree and residencies in pediatrics and pediatric critical care in Brazil, she pursued fellowships in Neonatology and Pediatric Critical Care at the University of Alberta and University of Toronto. Dr. Machado further honed her expertise with a Palliative Care Education and Practice Course at Harvard Medical School in 2018, followed by a post-graduation in Safety, Quality, and Leadership at Harvard in 2022. She also graduated from the Intermountain Healthcare Advanced Training Program for Quality in 2023 and holds a Lean Six Sigma White Belt. Currently, Dr. Machado is pursuing an MBA in Healthcare Administration at the University of Miami (2025).

From 2015 to 2024, Dr. Machado served as a Senior Attending and Associate Professor in Pediatric Cardiac and Critical Care at the University of Florida and the University of Miami, where she led the Pediatric Mechanical Circulatory Support Program at Holtz Children’s Hospital. She has been recognized for her contributions, including receiving multiple Children’s Miracle Network Research Awards (2017-2021) and lead a team to obtaining the ELSO Silver Award for ECMO at Holtz Children's Hospital, Jackson Memorial System, Miami, in 2024.

In 2024, Dr. Machado returned to Brazil to join Rede D'Or's Corporate Office of Quality and Safety and the Institute of Research and Development (IDOR), focusing on advancing healthcare quality and safety initiatives.
